Picking a gift for a functional manager
A functional manager usually runs a department rather than a single team, so they're juggling budgets, headcount and a lot of meetings where everyone wants a decision by Friday. They often came up through the work they now oversee, which means they know the job from the bottom and still feel a bit of pride in where the department is heading. A gift that acknowledges that long climb tends to land well. Put their title on a tee or hoodie, and add the department or the function they lead, like Finance, Operations or Engineering, on the second line. Many designs have room for a name, a year or a team, so you can make it about the role they've earned. A mug is a good pick for the desk that sees the most coffee, and a hoodie suits the early starts and the late cross-functional calls.
