Gifts from Hickory
Hickory is a small city in the foothills of the Carolinas, known for its furniture heritage and its long-running Hickory Apple Festival, which has been held in the fall for decades. A Hickory shirt suits someone who grew up there and still tells people where they're from, or someone who moved away and carries the name around as home. Local pride tends to show up in plain, sturdy things: a tee for a weekend in the yard, a hoodie for a cool evening at a game or a festival, a mug that starts the morning off as a reminder of where they're from. You can add a neighborhood, a school, a street or the year they left town in the second line. Shirts printed with the city name feel most personal when the second line is something only the recipient would recognize.
