Picking a gift for a postdoctoral scholar
A postdoctoral scholar has already survived the PhD, which means they've spent years on experiments that failed, grant applications that got rejected, and advisors who changed their mind. Now they're on a fixed-term appointment, often in a lab with a long hallway of other postdocs, chasing the papers and the next job at the same time. A gift that acknowledges that stretch lands well. A tee with their title on it is a small joke about the moment they're in, and a hoodie is what they'll reach for in the cold lab or on the late drive home from campus. A mug fits the bench-side coffee habit and the endless pile of pipette tips they're always sorting. You can make it theirs by adding their field, their lab or the year they started. Those details tell the lab exactly who this is and make the gift feel chosen rather than bought off a shelf.
Postdoctoral Scholar gift questions
Can I add their field or lab name to the shirt?
Yes. Many designs have a second line, so you can type in their research area, lab, or start year underneath the title. The live preview lets you check the spacing before you order.
Is there a special day for postdocs?
Some institutions and societies have postdoc appreciation events, but dates vary by school. Ordering a few weeks before a lab milestone or the end of their appointment works well.
What's a good gift for a postdoc who just landed a faculty job?
A mug or tee with their new title and the year is a good way to mark the move. Add the name of the new institution if you know it.
Can I order for a whole lab group at once?
Yes. The Team Shop lets you choose one design, paste a list of names, and pick a size for each person, with each shirt printed with its own name.
What sizes do the postdoctoral scholar shirts come in?
Adult tees come in S to 3XL. Hoodies, kids tees and onesies list their own sizes on each product page.
How long does a postdoctoral scholar gift take to arrive?
Each order is printed after you place it, in 2 to 4 business days, then ships by ground in 3 to 5 business days. The product page shows the delivery window for today's orders.
What if the print has a mistake?
If we print something different from the preview you approved, or it arrives damaged, we reprint it free.

- A tee for the labUse postdoctoral scholar as the main line and add their field or lab name underneath, which is the detail labmates will tease them about.
- A hoodie for the long nightsMany postdocs spend late evenings writing or running experiments, so a warm hoodie with their title and start year is practical and personal.
- A mug for the benchAn 11 oz mug with their title or name is a daily reminder that the work is theirs, and it keeps coffee off the instrument room counter.
- Matching shirts for the groupPick one design in the Team Shop and paste the names of everyone in the lab, and each person gets their own shirt in their own size.
