Picking a gift for a steersman
A steersman is the person who keeps a boat on course, usually from the stern, reading wind, current and the crew's rhythm at the same time. It's a quieter job than the captain's, and the people who do it tend to notice when a boat handles well, even if nobody else does. A gift that acknowledges that skill lands better than a generic sailing joke. Think about where they spend their time: on the water at dawn, on a dock during a regatta, or in the galley after a long day on the helm. A soft tee for the deck, a hoodie for the cold start of a sail, or an 11 oz mug for the cabby coffee before the tide turns will each feel like it was picked for them. Put steersman on the front and a boat name, a club or the year they started on the second line, and it becomes their own story rather than a catalog item.
Steersman gift questions
What does a steersman actually do?
A steersman handles the helm and holds the boat on its course, often while watching sails, wind and other boats. The job needs steady hands and attention, and the role is different from the skipper's even on a small crew.
Can I add a boat name or club to the shirt?
Yes. Most designs have a second line where you can type a boat name, club, or year. The preview updates so you can check the spacing before you order.
Is there a steersman design for kids?
Yes, there are kids tees and dark kids tees for this word. They're a fun pick for a young sailor who's learning the helm.
Can I order for a whole crew at once?
Yes. The Team Shop lets you pick one design, paste a list of names, and choose a size for each person so everyone gets their own shirt.
What sizes do the steersman shirts come in?
Adult tees come in S to 3XL. Hoodies, kids tees and onesies list their own sizes on each product page.
How long does a steersman gift take to arrive?
Each order is printed after you place it, in 2 to 4 business days, then ships by ground in 3 to 5 business days. The product page shows the delivery window for today's orders.
What if the print has a mistake?
If we print something different from the preview you approved, or it arrives damaged, we reprint it free.
