About this point hope gift
Point Hope is a small Inupiat village on the Chukchi Sea coast of northwest Alaska, one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in North America. People who grew up there, or who've spent a season working or teaching in town, tend to carry it with them for life. The shirts and mugs here are a way to say where you're from without a long explanation. Because the town is small and remote, a gift with its name on it often means more than a generic Alaska souvenir. For someone who has moved away, a mug with Point Hope on it is a daily reminder of home. For a visitor or a relative who came up for a summer job, a hoodie works well for the cold, windy evenings on the coast. Add a year or a family name on the second line to make it theirs.
