About this ettrick gift
Ettrick is a small place, and that's the first thing to keep in mind. Whoever you're shopping for has probably spent years explaining where it is, so a shirt or mug with the name on it does a lot of quiet work. It says home without needing a paragraph. For someone who grew up there and moved away, the name on a mug is a daily reminder on the drive to work and the first coffee of the morning. For someone who still lives there, a hoodie gets worn through the cold months and becomes part of the local wardrobe. Since I don't know much about the town's history or landmarks, the best way to make the gift theirs is to add something only you two would recognize: a street, a school year, a family name or the year they moved in. That small detail turns a place name into their place.
