Gifts from Castroville
Castroville is a small town in Monterey County, California, known as the Artichoke Center of the World, which is a fair thing to be proud of if you grew up there or left for school and kept coming back. A gift with the town's name on it tells a Castroville person you remember where they're from, whether they still live a few streets from the old high school or moved to the Bay Area and miss the smell of the fields. Many former residents hold onto their hometown long after moving away, so a tee or mug works as a little piece of home on the drive to work. For a new graduate or someone starting a job far away, a hoodie with the town name and the year they left adds a personal marker to something they'll wear through a cold first winter. Add a second line with a street, a class year or a family name and the design becomes theirs.
