Picking a gift for a direct support specialist
Direct support specialists work with adults who have intellectual or developmental disabilities, helping them with daily living, work, and community life. The job means long shifts, a lot of patience, and a steady stream of small wins that rarely make the news. A shirt, hoodie or mug that names their role tells them someone noticed the work. Put their first name on it or add the agency or program they work for, if they tell you, and it becomes theirs. Many designs have a second line, so you can write something like Direct Support Professional or a year they started. Since the job often has them moving between homes and job coaches, a mug for the car or the break room is practical as well as sweet. Shifts can be long, so a comfortable hoodie for the drive in is something they'll actually wear.
Direct Support Specialist gift questions
Can I add the word professional instead of specialist?
Yes. Type whichever title your recipient uses into the text box, and the preview will update before you order.
Is there a day to celebrate direct support workers?
Many states and organizations recognize a direct support professionals appreciation week in the fall, but dates vary by region, so check locally if you want to time your gift to it.
Can I put the name of their agency on a shirt?
You can type any text you like into a design. Just make sure it's a name they're happy to wear in public.
