Gifts from Kamuela
Kamuela is the Hawaiian name for Waimea, the ranch town on the Big Island, so anyone who grew up there or calls it home has a strong sense of place. Waimea sits up on the slopes of Mauna Kea, where the air is cooler and the weather can change in an hour, which makes a warm hoodie a practical gift as well as a sentimental one. Many people from Kamuela carry the name with them when they leave for school or work on the mainland, and a shirt or mug with the town name is how they keep that connection close. Kamuela is a small place, so a shirt with the town name on it will spark conversations with other islanders who recognize it right away. Start with the main word, then use the second line for a neighborhood, a school class year, or a family name to make the gift theirs.
