Raccoon Dog gifts for the people who love them
A raccoon dog, the tanuki of Japan, is a small, round-bodied animal of East Asia with a dark mask and a thick coat, and most people outside that region have never seen one. A gift that says Raccoon Dog will get a double take and then a story, which is half the fun. Tanuki are famous in Japanese folklore as shape-shifters with a fondness for sake and a comically large belly, so a shirt with the name works for the friend who loves odd animals, the wildlife enthusiast, or anyone who has ever said they were just being a little raccoon dog about something. Because the name is unfamiliar, adding a second line makes the gift feel deliberate. Put a name, a year or a nickname underneath and the shirt stops being a joke about an animal and becomes theirs.
