Gifts for Research Associate Professors

Picking a gift for a research associate professor

A research associate professor is usually a scientist or scholar who has earned a doctorate and runs a lab or project while working toward, or having reached, a faculty-style appointment that often depends on grant funding rather than tenure. Their days tend to mix bench or fieldwork, grant writing, data analysis, mentoring students and a lot of waiting on reviewers. A gift that acknowledges that long road lands well. A hoodie is useful for the cold lab or the late-night analysis session, and a mug is the one thing on the desk they reach for before the first meeting. Keep the title exact, since the word matters to them and they may get tired of being called just a professor. If you add their field, lab name or the year they earned their doctorate, the design stops being generic and becomes a small record of the work they've done.
