Spadefoot Toad gifts for the people who love them
A spadefoot toad is a small, stout amphibian with a wedge-shaped spade on each hind foot, used for digging backward into sandy soil. Most of its life happens underground, and it only surfaces after heavy spring rain, when the desert fills with temporary pools and the air turns loud with calls. Someone who loves spadefoots probably loves that rare, unexpected moment of seeing one. A gift that captures the toad itself, with its bulging golden eyes and squat little body, will land better than a generic frog shirt. The designs here cover the whole range, from light and dark tees to a hoodie for cool evenings in the field and a mug for the early-morning coffee that comes after a night of listening for calls. Add a second line if you want a species name, a field site or a year, and the piece becomes a record of their own sightings.
