Gifts from Tulelake
Tulelake is a small farming town in far northern California, near the Oregon line, where the land is flat, the sky is wide and most people know each other by truck. Its name comes from Tule Lake, the basin that once held wetlands and still draws waterfowl hunters and birders in the cold months. A Tulelake shirt tends to go to someone who grew up there and moved away for school or work, or to someone who lives there now and wants to wear the town on their chest at the county fair or the high school game. Because it's a small place, the second line matters. A class year, a family name or a street will mean more to the people who know it than the town name alone. For the hoodie, think about the cold mornings in the basin. For the mug, think about the coffee on the porch before the fields wake up.
