Gifts from Wounded Knee
Wounded Knee is a place in South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, and it carries a very heavy history. It's where US Army soldiers killed a large number of Lakota people, including many women and children, in December 1890. Because of that, a shirt or mug with these words is a different kind of gift than a hometown souvenir. The person you're buying for may have family ties to the Pine Ridge community, may have visited the memorial, or may care about this history for their own reasons. If you're not sure what they'd want, ask them before you order, or choose something simpler that doesn't depend on the place name alone. If you do go ahead, a design with a short second line you've chosen carefully, such as a year or a family name, lets the gift say what you mean by it. Pay attention to the design you pick, since the word reads very differently on a playful tee than on a quiet mug.
Wounded Knee gift questions
Is this a respectful gift to give?
It can be, when it's chosen with care. Think about how the person feels about this history and the place. A quieter product, like a mug or a hoodie, often suits this name better than a joke or a casual tee. When in doubt, ask someone close to them first.
Do the designs have a history or story printed on them?
Designs print the word and any second line you type in. Nothing else is added, so the meaning comes from what you choose to write.
Can I add a name or a year to the design?
Many designs have a second line. Type a name, a year or a short note into the text box and the live preview shows how it will look before you order.
What sizes do the wounded knee shirts come in?
Adult tees come in S to 3XL. Hoodies, kids tees and onesies list their own sizes on each product page.
How long does a Wounded Knee gift take to arrive?
Each order is printed after you place it, in 2 to 4 business days, then ships by ground in 3 to 5 business days. The product page shows the delivery window for today's orders.
What if the print has a mistake?
If we print something different from the preview you approved, or it arrives damaged, we reprint it free.
Wounded Knee gift ideas
- A quiet mug for a history readerAn 11oz mug with the place name is a low-key way to mark an interest in this history, especially for someone who reads and visits historic sites.
- A hoodie for a relative from the areaIf they have family or ties to Pine Ridge, a hoodie with the name and a personal line, such as a family name, can carry more meaning than a generic tee.
- A tee that matches their own wordsIf they've told you how they'd like to see the name shown, use a design that fits that and add a second line they've picked.
