About this gate city gift
Gate City is the nickname people use for Keokuk in Iowa and for Martinsburg and other places that claim it, so the person this gift is for is likely someone who grew up in one of those towns and carries the nickname with real pride. A Gate City shirt is a way to wear a hometown that doesn't show up on most maps, whether they still live there or left a long time ago. Because the name is a local one rather than a famous global brand, the best gifts are the ones that root it in where they're from. Add the neighborhood, school or street, or the year they graduated, and the design stops being a souvenir and becomes a piece of their history. For someone who moved away, a mug or hoodie with the nickname is an easy way to say you remember where they came from.
