About this novice gift
Novice is a word that describes a stage rather than a person, so the gift is really for someone who's just starting something: a new hobby, a first job, a first season, a first attempt at a craft. The best gifts for a beginner are the ones that say you noticed the effort and expect them to keep going. A tee for the first class or first game, a hoodie for cold early mornings at the range or the rink, a mug for the coffee they'll drink while reading the manual. Add the activity or the year they started on the second line so the gift is about their particular beginning, not a generic one. Beginners often feel self-conscious, so something lighthearted and wearable tends to land better than a big statement piece.
