About this shawnee mission gift
Shawnee Mission is a suburb of Kansas City, and the people who grew up there, went to the high schools or still live in the area tend to hold onto that connection hard. A shirt with the town name is a way to claim a place that's easy to overlook on a map, whether it's for someone who moved away for work and misses the Kansas City area, or someone who has never left and wears their hometown on everything. Because it's a suburb with a distinct name, a Shawnee Mission design reads as a local pride piece rather than a generic city souvenir. Add a year, a graduation class or a street they grew up on in the second line and the shirt starts to belong to one person. The same goes for a mug on the kitchen counter of a transplant, or a baby onesie for a family rooted in the area.
