About this sleetmute gift
Sleetmute is a small village in western Alaska, on the Kuskokwim River, and most people who live there have a deep connection to the land and the river. Its name is widely reported to come from a Yup'ik word, but the exact origin is one you should look up rather than take from a store page. A shirt or mug with Sleetmute on it is for someone who's proud of a place that's easy to miss on a map, a neighbor who knows the seasons by the ice and the river. Because the village is small, a gift that names it tends to be treasured by the person who carries it with them, whether they still live there or have moved away. Add a second line with a year they arrived, a family name, or a line about the river and it becomes theirs. A hoodie suits the cold months, and a mug suits the morning ritual of someone who misses home.
