About this metlakatla gift
Metlakatla is a small community on Annette Island in southeast Alaska, and people who live there or have roots there often feel a strong pull to home. A shirt or mug with the town's name is a way to carry that place with them, whether they're a longtime resident, a relative who moved away for school or work, or someone who visited and never forgot the water and the mountains. Because it's a small place, a gift with the name on it reads as personal rather than like a souvenir-shop tee. A hoodie suits the cold months and the fishing boats, a dark tee works for everyday wear, and a mug is the easy daily reminder on a desk far from the island. For the kids who grew up there, a kids tee or baby onesie lets a family pass the name down. If you're not sure how the name is usually written or what a second line should say, a year, a family name or a short line about why they love the place is a safe choice that makes the gift theirs.
