About this graduate teaching assistant gift
A graduate teaching assistant is usually a grad student doing two jobs at once: finishing their own degree while running discussion sections, grading problem sets, and answering the same question in office hours for the fifth time that week. Many are still living on a stipend and a lot of coffee, so the gifts they keep tend to be the practical, comfortable ones. A soft tee for a long day in the lab, a hoodie for a cold office with the heat set too low, or an 11 oz mug that's clearly theirs so nobody else claims it at the shared kitchen. What lands best is something that acknowledges the particular grind of TA life. Put their name on it and add their department or program on the second line, and it stops being a generic teacher shirt and becomes theirs. If you're buying for a whole cohort, one design with each person's name in the Team Shop makes a better end-of-term gift than another round of donuts.
