About this grottoes gift
Grottoes is a small town in Virginia, a little way off the main roads, the kind of place where everyone seems to know which church or store you mean. People who grew up there tend to hold onto it, whether they still live nearby or have been gone for decades. A shirt with the town name is how they say so at a family reunion, a homecoming game or a trip back for the holidays. It also works for the transplant who's missed home since they left. Many designs have a second line, so you can add a year, a family name or a street, anything that makes it theirs. For someone who's moved away, a mug with the town on it is a small daily reminder of where they're from. I know much less about this town than the bigger cities, so the most useful detail is the one you already have: the year they lived there or the name it means to them.
