About this solvay gift
Solvay is a village in Onondaga County, New York, just outside Syracuse, and most people who grew up there carry the name with some pride. The place takes its name from the Solvay process, a chemical method for making soda ash that put the village on the map in the nineteenth century, and many families still have someone who worked in the industry or grew up with the old works on the edge of town. A Solvay shirt is how a former resident says where they're from when they're far away, and it's a natural gift for a relative who left and never quite stopped calling it home. Pair the village name with a second line, a graduation year or the street they grew up on, and the design stops being a souvenir and becomes theirs. For someone still living there, a hoodie for the Central New York winter or a mug for the morning commute makes the gift feel local.
