About this umpire gift
Umpires work the plate in every kind of weather, call balls and strikes all night, and rarely hear thanks from the crowd. A shirt or mug with their name on it is one of the few times the job gets noticed. Most umpires keep a few tees for the warm-up games and a hoodie for the cold early-season doubleheaders, so a dark tee or a warm hoodie gets worn and not left in the bag. Add the league, the level or the number of years they've worked the field, and it becomes theirs. A mug suits the dugout or the kitchen table after a long weekend of games. The sport has its own calendar, with the season starting in spring and tournaments through the summer, so ordering a few weeks before the opening day or the end-of-season banquet gives you time to get it right.
