About this benin gift
Benin is a small country with a big hold on the people who come from it, or married into it, or fell for it on a trip. A gift here is usually about belonging. It might be a Beninese American who wants something to wear to a cultural gathering, a Peace Corps volunteer home from a posting, a student back from a semester abroad, or a grandparent who left Cotonou or Porto-Novo decades ago and still talks about it. French is the official language, so a shirt that pairs Benin with a city, a hometown or a short phrase in French feels personal rather than generic. You can type their village, their family name or the year they arrived in the US on the second line of many designs. Kids and babies can wear it too, which helps when a family wants to match for a reunion or a naming ceremony photo.
