About this butterfield gift
Butterfield is a surname more than a place name, so the person a shopper is buying for may be a Butterfield by birth, by marriage, or a cousin who likes the sound of it. Families with a distinctive last name tend to hold onto it, and a shirt or mug with the name on it becomes a small piece of identity that gets worn to reunions, school events and everyday errands. The gifts that land best usually add one more detail that's theirs: a first name on the second line, a family reunion year, or the town the family came from. Because the word refers to a person's surname rather than a city, the most meaningful choices are the ones that mark the family line. A hoodie works for the cold-weather errands, a dark tee suits the person who dresses simply, and a mug is the right size for the kitchen where the family ends up gathering. Type the name exactly as the family spells it, check the preview, and you have something that reads as personal at first glance.
