About this jug janggu gift
Janggu is a Korean hourglass-shaped drum, played with the hands on two heads of different pitch and tone. A janggu player usually comes out of Korean traditional music, p'ansori, or a samulnori group, where the drum keeps the rhythm for the whole ensemble. Gifts for a percussionist land when they show you know the instrument, so put the word exactly as the player says it and add a second line with their group, their school, or the year they started playing. The janggu is a hard instrument to find in a gift shop, which is part of why a personal shirt or mug feels special. A dark tee suits a stage performer; a hoodie works for rehearsals in a cold practice room; a mug fits the desk of a teacher who spends the day explaining the difference between the two heads.
