About this meraux gift
Meraux is a small community in St. Bernard Parish, southeast of New Orleans, and the people who call it home tend to hold onto it hard. Many of them have family roots there that go back generations, and plenty still live within a few miles of where they grew up. A Meraux shirt is how they claim the place, whether that's for the Sunday cookout, a family reunion, or just a quiet way to say where they're from when someone asks. Because the town is small, a shirt with the name on it is less a souvenir than a little statement of belonging. Add a second line with a street, a church, a school year or a family name, and it becomes something only the people who know the area will fully read. For someone who moved away and misses home, a Meraux mug is a daily reminder of the place they still think of as theirs.
