About this yang chi'in gift
Yang chi'in is a Chinese hammered dulcimer, a trapezoid of strings struck with two small bamboo mallets, and the person who plays one usually picks it up for the bright, shimmering sound more than for anything else. Players tend to be serious hobbyists, orchestra members or teachers who spend evenings tuning and practicing and talking about bridges, mallet technique and string gauges. A shirt or mug with the instrument's name on it is an easy way to say you see what they're working toward. Add their name, their ensemble, or the year they started playing on a second line and it becomes theirs. For a player who has already done a recital or joined a group, a hoodie with their name and the instrument works well for cold rehearsal halls and winter concerts.
