About this coulee gift
A coulee is a steep-sided valley carved into the rolling hills of the Driftless Area, a stretch of Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois that the glaciers skipped. The word belongs to the people who grew up hiking those hollows and learning the difference between a coulee and a ravine from a grandparent. A shirt with Coulee on it is a way of saying where they're from, and it reads as a real local word instead of a generic town name. For someone who moved away, a mug or hoodie from home is the thing that makes a cold apartment feel like it has a landscape behind it. You can add a second line with the town or the county they grew up in, which turns a word most shoppers won't recognize into something only they and their people will.
