About this extern gift
An extern is a student nurse or pre-licensure learner who works shifts on a real unit under supervision, often in a hospital or clinic. That means long days on their feet, a lot of learning on the fly, and a steady need for something that makes the early mornings feel a little more like theirs. Externs are usually still in school, so practical gifts land well: a comfortable tee for clinical days, a hoodie for cold hallways and break rooms, or a mug for the coffee that keeps them going between rotations. Adding their name is the easiest way to make it personal. If you know their program or the unit they're placed on, you can put that on the second line so the shirt reflects the work they're doing right now. Externships can be a short stretch, so a gift that marks the experience, or the start of their career, feels meaningful without being fussy.
