About this shaktoolik gift
Shaktoolik is a small Inupiat village on the Norton Sound coast of western Alaska, and the people who grew up there, or who came back to it after years away, tend to hold on to that connection hard. A shirt with the village name is how they claim it at a family gathering, a school event, or a distant city where nobody has heard of the place. Because it's such a small community, a gift that names it tells the person you know where they're from, which means more than a generic Alaska souvenir. The product matters too. A hoodie gets worn through long winters that the village knows well, a mug sits on the kitchen table where stories get told, and a onesie or kids tee can carry the name to the next generation. Type the village name into the main line, and add a second line for a year, a family name or a place they miss.
