About this tununak gift
Tununak is a small village on the coast of southwestern Alaska, on Nelson Island in the Bering Sea. People who grew up there, or who have family there, often carry the name with real pride, and a shirt with the village name is a way to say where you're from in a place most people have never heard of. For someone who has moved away for school, work or the military, a Tununak design is a quiet reminder of home. For a family member still there, it's a gift that says you've been thinking about them across the distance. Many designs have a second line, so you can add a year, a family name or a simple line about home. Because the village is small and its details are personal, the best way to make the gift theirs is to put in the words they'd use.
