About this executive sous chef gift
An executive sous chef runs the kitchen when the executive chef is away, and on a busy Saturday that can mean calling the line, expediting plates, handling the walk-in and cutting the schedule at the same time. They usually stand for twelve hours or more, smell like a grill most of the day, and get very little credit from the dining room. A gift that acknowledges the actual job tends to land best: something they can wear to the restaurant on a day off, or a mug for the office corner where they do the ordering and the schedule. Put their name on it, or the restaurant's name if they're proud of the place, and add the title itself so it reads as theirs and not as a generic chef shirt. Chefs at this level tend to notice when a gift is specific, and a shirt that says executive sous chef tells them you know exactly where they stand in the brigade.
