About this oboist gift
An oboist is the person in the orchestra who gives everyone else their A, and who spends a lot of rehearsals reed in mouth, adjusting and cursing a little under their breath. Oboe reeds are fussy and they don't last, so a gift that acknowledges the daily work of keeping a double reed alive will land better than a generic music shirt. Many oboists play in community orchestras, wind ensembles, church groups or college bands, and they often wear black on concert night, so a dark tee or hoodie fits the stage as well as the couch. The mug is for the early-morning reed soak and the long coffee breaks between movements. Put oboist on the shirt, and if you know their group or section, use the second line for it, or add a year they started playing. That small detail is what tells them you've actually listened to them talk about their instrument.
All oboist gifts →- A dark tee for concert nightsOboists often perform in black, so a dark shirt with oboist on it doubles as a concert-night layer.
- A hoodie for cold rehearsal hallsRehearsal rooms and outdoor summer concerts can both run cold, and a hoodie covers either one.
- A mug for reed-soaking morningsAn 11 oz mug gives them a reason to stop and drink something hot before the day's first long practice.
- A shirt for a young playerIf your oboist is a student, a kids tee with oboist on it is a proud first piece of gear for a school band.
