About this wounded knee gift
Wounded Knee is a place in South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, and it carries a very heavy history. It's where US Army soldiers killed a large number of Lakota people, including many women and children, in December 1890. Because of that, a shirt or mug with these words is a different kind of gift than a hometown souvenir. The person you're buying for may have family ties to the Pine Ridge community, may have visited the memorial, or may care about this history for their own reasons. If you're not sure what they'd want, ask them before you order, or choose something simpler that doesn't depend on the place name alone. If you do go ahead, a design with a short second line you've chosen carefully, such as a year or a family name, lets the gift say what you mean by it. Pay attention to the design you pick, since the word reads very differently on a playful tee than on a quiet mug.
All wounded knee gifts →- A quiet mug for a history readerAn 11oz mug with the place name is a low-key way to mark an interest in this history, especially for someone who reads and visits historic sites.
- A hoodie for a relative from the areaIf they have family or ties to Pine Ridge, a hoodie with the name and a personal line, such as a family name, can carry more meaning than a generic tee.
- A tee that matches their own wordsIf they've told you how they'd like to see the name shown, use a design that fits that and add a second line they've picked.
