About this dover plains gift
Dover Plains is a small town in Dutchess County, New York, out in the rolling hills about an hour and a half north of the city. People who grew up there tend to carry it with them, whether they still live nearby or ended up in a much bigger place. A shirt with the town name is how they say where they're from without a long explanation, and it fits right in at a family reunion, a high school homecoming, or a weekend trip back to see the people who stayed. For someone who moved away, a mug with the town on it is a small daily reminder of home. For a new parent who grew up there, a baby onesie with Dover Plains on it is a way of passing the name down. You can add a year, a class, or a street name on the second line, which makes the shirt feel like it belongs to one specific person rather than to the whole town.
