About this thorndike gift
Thorndike is a small name for a place, and a shopper buying for someone from there is probably buying for someone who knows exactly how far everything is from everything else. Smaller towns tend to run on loyalty: people leave and come back, and a shirt with the town name is how they say where they're from without a long explanation. For someone who grew up there, it works as a clear, low-key piece of home they can wear anywhere. For someone who moved away, it's the sort of gift that gets a laugh and then goes straight into rotation. You can make it theirs with a second line for the year they graduated, the street they grew up on, or the name of the family who ran the business they remember. A simple design usually reads best on a small place name, so keep the wording short and let the name carry it.
