About this mandolin gift
A mandolin player is usually the one who ends up with a jam circle around them on a porch, a bluegrass band fill-in, or a sheet of tabs they've been fighting for weeks. They tend to love gear, and they tend to be proud of the small sounds only another player would notice, like the tremolo rolling under a fiddle break. A gift that acknowledges the instrument lands well, because it says you noticed what they spend their evenings doing. Start with the word itself. Mandolin on a shirt or hoodie is a clear pick for someone who plays at open mics or in a band, and a mug suits the person who practices with coffee at the kitchen table. If they play a particular style, or you know the name of their band, add that on the second line so the shirt reads as theirs and not as a generic music tee.
