About this poughquag gift
Poughquag is a small hamlet in the town of Wappinger in Dutchess County, New York, and the people who live there or grew up there tend to know every road, church and diner by name. A shirt that says Poughquag is how they claim the place, whether they're still around the corner or have been gone for years. It works as a return-visit shirt for anyone who made the trip back to see family, and as a quiet gift for the one who moved away and misses the hills and the small-town pace. Put it on a hoodie for a cold Hudson Valley fall, or on a mug for the kitchen table where they start the day with the place they came from. Because the community is small, a good way to make it personal is to add a second line with the street, a family name or the year they moved in, so the shirt points to their own corner of Poughquag and not just the name on a sign.
