About this mattawamkeag gift
Mattawamkeag is a small town in northern Maine, on the Penobscot River, where the Maine woods start to feel like the main event. The people who belong there tend to be proud of it in a quiet way: they know the drive, the seasons and the people who've stayed put. A shirt or mug with the town name is a way of saying where someone is from, whether they still live there or left for school and came back in their heads every winter. Because it's such a particular name, a gift with it lands as a personal choice rather than a generic souvenir. Add a second line with a year they were born, a graduating class or a family name if you want to make it theirs. For someone who has moved away, a mug is the kind of small daily reminder that tends to get used more than anything else.
