About this boatswain mate gift
A boatswain mate is the sailor who keeps a ship's deck and small boats working: rigging, anchors, line handling, watches on the bridge wing, and the constant small repairs nobody sees until they're missing. It's physical work done in weather, often at odd hours, and the people who do it tend to take quiet pride in the seamanship. A gift that lands with them usually nods to that. A dark tee or hoodie is what they'll reach for on a cold morning watch, and a mug is the one that gets claimed at the mess table. Put their name on it, or the rating itself, along with a year or a ship or command name if you know it. That turns a generic rating shirt into something that's clearly theirs. If you're buying for a whole division or a retirement group, one design with each sailor's name on their own shirt is a better send-off than another cake in the galley.
