About this lighting engineer gift
Lighting engineers spend their working lives making other people look good. They rig stages, tune architectural fixtures and program cues that most of the audience never notices, and when the show goes right they're usually standing somewhere dark with a laptop and a headset. A lighting engineer gift should respect that: a comfortable tee for a long load-in, a hoodie for the cold catwalk or the chilly venue at 2 a.m., or a mug for the first coffee before the rig check. Many of the people in this trade work freelance, tour in rotation or move between theaters, concerts and corporate events, so a gift that says what they do travels well and gets worn on the road. You can make it theirs by adding a second line with their crew, their venue or the year they started, or by putting their name where a stage manager would look for it on the call sheet.
