About this postdoctoral fellowship gift
A postdoc spends a few years on short contracts, long hours in the lab and a steady stream of rejected grant applications, and most of them are doing it on a salary that doesn't match their training. They're usually in the middle of a project that nobody outside their field has heard of, so a gift that acknowledges the work lands better than a generic science joke. A tee or hoodie with Postdoctoral Fellow on it is a small way to say you know they're still in training and still earning their place. Add their lab or their field on the second line, or the year they started, and it becomes specific to them. Postdocs also move between institutions often, so a mug works well for the desk in a shared office. Many of them carry a lot of pride about the title even when it feels temporary, and a well-made shirt gives that pride somewhere to show up.
