About this 1st grade teacher gift
First grade is the year kids learn to read, and the teacher who gets them there deserves better than another apple-shaped candle. First grade teachers wear their classroom on their sleeve, literally: field-day tees, spirit-week shirts, the hoodie they throw on for recess duty in November. A shirt that says 1st Grade Teacher with their name or room number gets worn all year, and a matching mug makes it onto the desk next to the sticker charts. Parents often go in together on a class gift. If you're the room parent, one design with the teacher's name on a tee plus a mug is easy to split and easy to wrap. Teacher Appreciation Week falls in the first full week of May, and the end of the school year in late May and June is the other big moment. Back-to-school in August works too, especially for a teacher starting at a new school.
