About this deer island gift
Deer Island is a small place with a big reputation for anyone who grew up near Boston Harbor. It's a peninsula and a long-standing site of the city's wastewater treatment plant, so people from the area have strong and mixed feelings about it. A shirt with Deer Island on it is for someone who knows the name from a daily commute, a childhood walk along the water, or family who lived in the neighborhood. It works as a conversation piece, a way to claim a place that doesn't always get written about. For a kid who loves the island or a grownup who spent years there, a Deer Island hoodie or mug gives them something that says where they're from. Add a street, a year they lived there or a second word like Winthrop, and it becomes theirs.
