About this kotzebue gift
Kotzebue is a city of a few thousand people on the northwest coast of Alaska, above the Arctic Circle, where the Inupiat community has lived for a very long time. Someone from there, or someone who spent years working or teaching in town, carries that place with them far beyond the Arctic, and a shirt with the name is a quiet way of saying where they belong. Because the city is small and remote, a Kotzebue design tends to be a conversation starter, the kind of thing a friend notices and asks about. For the person who left home for school or a job in the Lower 48, a hoodie is the warm pick for the first winter that feels nothing like the coast they grew up on. A mug works well for the kitchen table of someone who still calls home every week. Add a year, a school class or a family name in the second line, and the design becomes about their own story as well as the city's.
