About this uguisu gift
An uguisu is a Japanese bush warbler, the small olive-brown songbird best known for its clear call that announces spring in Japanese gardens and temple grounds. People who love uguisu often love them for the sound: a bright, ringing song that carries across a quiet morning, and the old saying about the bird that sings only when it's ready. Someone who feels that way about the bird would appreciate a shirt that does the same thing quietly, with the word in clean type and room for a second line such as a name or a favorite season. Because the bird is small and easy to overlook, a gift that makes its name visible fits the joke and the affection at once. A mug works well for early tea, a hoodie for cool mornings, and a kids or baby design for a family that shares the bird's name with a new arrival.
