About this new straitsville gift
New Straitsville is a small village in Perry County, Ohio, a former coal mining town in the hills of the southeastern part of the state. People who grew up there, or whose family did, tend to hold on to the name hard, even after they've moved to Columbus, Cincinnati or somewhere much farther away. A shirt with the town name is a way of saying where they come from without a long explanation. For someone who worked the mines or whose grandparents did, the name carries a history that a generic souvenir never will. Put the name on a hoodie for a cold Ohio winter, a tee for the homecoming weekend, or a mug for the transplant who still checks the local news. Because it's a small place, the design is also a good way to show you know it matters to them, even if you never visited yourself.
