About this scientific advisor gift
A scientific advisor spends their days translating between the lab and the people who have to make decisions, often in meetings where they're the only one who read the full study. They tend to work in government agencies, companies, nonprofits and universities, and they're usually on the road more than they'd like. A gift that acknowledges that mix of rigor and patience tends to land best. A tee or hoodie they can wear to a long review session, or a mug for the morning coffee that gets cold while they're reading a draft, speaks to the actual rhythm of the job. Ask what field they advise in, since a climate advisor and a public health advisor have very different days. If you're not sure, a simple shirt with their title keeps things safe and still feels like it's for them. Put their name on it, and the gift becomes a small, quiet acknowledgment of work most people never see.
